Cablevision Cable Box Tricks & Tips.

By Cary Congero

Scientific Atlanta Cable boxes 4200, 4250hd & 8300hd use one of two remote controls models ur2-cbl-cv02 or ur2-cbl-cv04, both remotes work any of the boxes, but the 04 version is more functional since it has DVR and aspect ratio functions.

A simple rebooting of the box could solve many different issues this is done by 1 of 2 ways unplugging the ac power for 30 seconds and plugging it back in, Or push vol + & vol dn & info buttons on the cable box at the same time let go the box should reboot.

Still having problems need to call cablevision and you have more than 1 box in the house you may want to try this first cablevision usually needs the [sa] or serial number you can usually get this number easily without trying to get to the back of your box tune to channel # 500 and let it load then press [abba] on your remote control you will see the [sa #] on the screen & the security card #.

Did you just get a new cable box? Or swap out the old on for a new one?  And you do not receive all channels mostly channels past 25 here’s another tick you can try.

Using your remote control hold down the pause button for approximately 15 seconds until the green mail light starts flashing on the box immediately push the page down button the display will change to e00 then push the play button  this will bring you to the provision page  then you enter the set up screen where you will have to enter your account #  & telephone #          this will request a hit from the cable company to be sent to the box you should se the box receive hit and reboot  automatically then you can try the channels again.

Having trouble with your picture freezing it may be a weak cable signal this is easy to check
Using your remote control hold down the pause button for approximately 15 seconds until the green mail light starts flashing on the box immediately push the page up button the screen will change to the 1st page of a 36 page menu there you will find the cable signal in [dbmv]  0 dbmv is the ideal number you would like to see however -9 to + 9 dbmv is acceptable  -10 to -20 is not acceptable and these numbers will l be displayed in orange not white the same goes for + 10 to + 20 dbmv use exit button on the remote to exit this menu.

How to set up hd cable boxes such as sa4250hd sa8300hd [dvr box]  to get the best picture possible on your TV.

1. turn off the power to the box and hold down the “guide” and “info” buttons at the same time.  Upon holding the buttons down, you’ll be brought to a page that welcomes you to the set-up and asks you if you’d like to proceed.

2. step 2: press the yellow “a” key on your remote to proceed with configuration. This will take you to a new screen that allows you to configure the box via “easy mode” or “advanced mode.” I’ve used both and the only real option here is “advanced.”

3. press the blue “b” key on your remote to enter the “advanced mode” menu

4. choose the “wide-screen mode” option by pressing the blue “b” button on your remote next, the set-up will show a screen that explains the procedure. It basically says that it will run through screen resolutions. If you can see an image on the screen, your HDTV is capable of viewing video at that resolution and you should select it. If the screen is black, you won’t be able to view it and you shouldn’t select it.

5. start running through your the resolutions. At this point, the operation becomes quite self-explanatory. Start with the lowest resolution (480i) and start testing each with the blue “b” key. If you can see the screen, select it and move on. If not, your HDTV doesn’t support that resolution.

6. complete the set up by pressing the “exit” button.
